[ She says the archery range and he's already running there, moving past anyone even if they're staring because he'd be damned if he left her alone again for a second time. She can't be alone here, not in this hell that she has yet to face.
He's there sooner than she'd expect, hardly breaking a sweat; but he stands still before her for a moment before moving in and pulling her in to an embrace. It's not as desperate as the one when she'd arrived, but it's still tight. He can tell she'd been crying. ]
[When he pulls her in, she's already meeting him halfway, her arms wrapped tightly around him, her fingers digging into his sides like she's going to hook herself on him and never let go.]
Hak you idiot ... [He always had to do his own thing, could never just answer a simple question ... had to promise her he'd never leave her alone and then disappear for days. She whacks him lightly with one tiny fist.] Don't you ever do that to me again, you hear? I won't allow it.
[ He can't remember the last time she'd hung onto him like this. Not since the King died.
It only reaffirms the fact that he can't leave again. He'll find a way to fight them, to make sure that they can't take him away again like they did. Hak didn't see it coming, and if he'd had the time, he would have fought back--but he couldn't. He hates that. He holds her tighter. ]
[He promises, and she knows that he means it with all of his heart, but it doesn't comfort her. So much of their lives are completely out of their control. He hadn't chosen for his code to be corrupted (whatever that meant), just as her father hadn't chosen to be murdered ... terrible things just happen. And she tries to be strong about it, tries to focus on the things she can do but sometimes she's just crushed by the futility of it all.
But sooner or later, she does always get it back under control. After a few moments of shaking in his arms, Yona pulls herself back together.]
You're not hurt, are you? Because of what happened? Is anything damaged?
[Yona wants to rail and rage and scream in frustration, but she knows it won't do any good. Athena is doing the best she can; it's not her fault that she doesn't have the answers Yona wants.]
[ Of course it doesn't. It shouldn't. He's always known that the bullshit that happens here was and still is out of his control; and boy he's gone through hell to try and get a grip on it all, but even so... CERES is smart. In a world that both of them are still trying to understand, they are at a disadvantage. A huge one.
It helps that she stops shaking. Puts his mind at ease, just a little more. He's never going to rest until they're safe, but he pulls himself together in the same instant. ]
Doesn't feel like it. I woke up, and I went through that dumb presentation all over again. It felt like my first time here all over again.
Good. I'm glad. [She takes a deep breath, and then puts her hands on her hips.] I was just about ready to throw out everything in your room! It's a mess in there!
[Truth be told, her own room is far messier than Hak's could ever be — now that she has the means to buy pretty clothes again, and a place to put them, and no real reason not to buy pretty clothes ... well, she's been collecting quite a wardrobe. And while she's gotten used to a life without servants tending to her every need, that hasn't exactly translated into her being tidy with her things.]
[ So...it's the day after the library event's over, and Hak's back to his usual self. That being said, the idea of having to face Yona today makes him extremely uncomfortable; but they live together, he's given his life to her, and there's no going back. They've been through worse (he thinks??) and he's just going to play it cool as usual.
He's polishing his spear in the living room, waiting for her to awaken. Hopefully she isn't too upset...? ]
[Upset? Why would she be upset? There's no reason for her to be upset. Everything yesterday was just a joke. A big, terrible, awful joke that went too far, but because Yona is Hak's friend, she is going to pretend like it never happened. Because that's what friends do.
She sleeps late into the morning, just in case she caught whatever sickness she thought Hak had the day before. But there is only so long she can lie in bed, hoping Hak would leave resting, and eventually hunger drives her out into the common area.
[ ...Right. This is what they usually do, isn't it. Whenever he messes up, whenever he loses self-control, they act like nothing ever happened. He's okay with it, for now. He reminds himself of where he stands, to keep himself in his place, and he sets his Hsu Quandao aside to lean back into the couch. ]
[It's better that way — you know it is. What they have right now is as good as things can be. She could love him the way he wants someday, maybe ... she might even love him already ... but to bring those emotions out into the open would trigger an explosion that would destroy everything.]
How are you feeling this morning? Have you had breakfast?
[ As far as he's concerned? It's best like this. He knows what she's been through. He understands how Soo-woon hurt her, hurt them both, but the difference is that she was in love with him and Hak isn't about to cross that territory with her. they'll get there but y'know ]
No. [ He sighs and throws his arms over his head. ] I was gonna head out to the market, if you wanted anything.
[Yona is sleeping lightly enough that the call wakes her up, although she still doesn't catch it before it goes to voicemail. She almost calls Shiho back right away, but stops. Shiho sounds so uncomfortable, and honestly, Yona is as well. She doesn't want to be, but she does still feel hurt by the invasion into her memories.
But she can't avoid it forever; it's not really in Yona's nature. With the exception of a few Major Issues, Yona prefers to confront things head on. So the next day, she finds out Shiho's address and goes to knock on her door. Hopefully the other girl is home ...]
[Shiho's home today, spending time with Wallace the Wombat CYBuddy so she's the one who goes to answer the door.
Thanks to the psychometry, she doesn't even need to open the door to see who it is. She almost hesitates before reminding herself that if Yona really was going to hate her for her powers that it was always best just to get that out of the way instead of letting herself cling to some kind of false hope.]
[Shiho's expression tries for calm, even on seeing the way Yona's smile starts to falter, as she tells herself that it's fine. She doesn't care. Everything's fine. She's older now and nothing can hurt her ever again if she doesn't let it.]
